More about Kraal Gallery
The Kraal Gallery is a passionate South African family business that trains, employs and empowers women to become qualified master weavers and individual fibre artists. They are a socially committed team that have dedicated their efforts to providing a platform for hundreds of previously disadvantaged women from the rural outskirts of SA to weave their own futures.
The ladies are trained to create rugs with a unique, bright flavour that speak of the journey of how they have been made. Each lady explores her own creativity as talents evolve and stunning individual pieces are created.
Why they started…
“We realised the need for social development towards women in this country, particularly in township & rural areas, and at the same time we felt the need to share our knowledge, so naturally the two went hand in hand and we decided to teach weaving skills to women who would like to an opportunity to be a breadwinner in their family.”
Vision
“The kraal Gallery wants to showcase talents we wouldn’t have otherwise known existed. The Kraal Gallery wants to become a household name in modern hand woven design, colour and individual artistry that stretches into homes locally and abroad. The team want to see a dream realised – one rooted in a way of modern resourcefulness and combined efforts that lead to economic change and a social paradigm shift – producing and presenting the talents and beauty of people who thrive in the creative realm.”
Achievements
- Successfully trained and empowered 300 women
- We have 40 qualified NQF 2 weaver trainers
- Awarded the Gold award in best practice of national skills transfer
How they could use a hand…
This gives you an idea of the specific areas that Kraal Gallery would appreciate assistance; however, if you’d like to collaborate or help them out in any other way at all, all input is appreciated:
“basically we need a big brother, someone with the same vision as values as our organisation and will be willing to there on a medium to long term basis.”
